Uganda has savannah parks as well as forest. Queen Elizabeth National Park has the Kasenyi plains and the Ishasha sector, where lions rest in fig trees. Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley hold elephants, giraffes, buffalo and lions.
Game drives run early and late in the day, when the animals move. A private vehicle means you can stay with a sighting instead of following a fixed schedule.
