Day by day
Day 1: Mbale
Driving Time: ~5 hours Depart Kampala early in the morning and travel eastwards through Jinja and the fertile farmlands of Eastern Uganda. Enjoy scenic views of tea plantations, rural trading centers, and local markets along the way.
Day 2: Arrival Mbale
Hiking Sipi Falls – Transfer to Pian Upe After breakfast, drive about 1 hour to the famous Sipi Falls on the foothills of Mount Elgon. Activities • Guided hike to the three waterfalls • Coffee farm visit (Arabica coffee experience) • Cultural interaction with the Sabiny communities • Photography of the 95-meter main waterfall The falls are among Uganda’s most scenic landscapes and lie on the slopes of Mount Elgon overlooking the Karamoja plains.
Day 3: Arrival Pian Upe wild Reserve
Game Drive – Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve Spend the morning exploring the vast savannah landscapes of Pian Upe, one of Uganda’s most untouched wilderness areas. Possible Wildlife • Roan antelope • Oribi • Jackson’s hartebeest • Zebras • Ostriches • Leopards (rare sightings) Activities • Morning game drive • Scenic photography of the Karamoja plains • Bird watching Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Day 4: Pian Upe
Transfer to Kumi – Cultural Evening After breakfast depart Pian Upe and travel to Kumi, the cultural heartland of the Iteso people. Check in at: Kumi Hotel Evening Cultural Experience • Traditional Teso music and dance performances • Introduction to local instruments such as Adungu and drums • Storytelling about Iteso traditions and heritage Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 5: Arrival Kumi
Lake Bisina Birding – Nyero Rock Paintings – Cultural Experiences Early morning transfer to Lake Bisina. Birding Highlights • Fox’s Weaver (rare and endemic to the Lake Kyoga basin) • Shoebill Stork • Papyrus Gonolek • African Jacana • Malachite Kingfisher Boat or canoe exploration through papyrus swamps offers excellent bird photography opportunities. Afternoon Visit: Nyero Rock Paintings Visit the ancient Nyero Rock Paintings, one of the most important archaeological sites in Uganda. Cultural Experiences in Teso Visitors will participate in authentic village activities: • Millet grinding using traditional stones • Construction and explanation of traditional granaries • Cow milking experience • Learning about the famous sour milk (Emasi) culture Return to Kumi Hotel for dinner. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 6: Arrival Entebbe International
Kumi – Kampala / Entebbe After breakfast depart Kumi for the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Stopovers can be made for lunch and souvenir shopping along the way. Drop off at: • Entebbe International Airport for your flight, or • Your hotel in Kampala.
